Who's Hungry? (“Who's Hungry,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a social dining app that helps people make real-life restaurant plans with friends and like-minded people. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Who's Hungry mobile app, our website at whoshungry.com, and related services (together, the “Services”).
By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Account & profile information.
You sign in using Apple or Google (we do not use passwords). Through sign-in we receive your name, email address, and—if you choose to share it—a profile photo. You may add a display name, username, bio, dining “vibes,” and other profile details. Some accounts earn badges based on activity.
Identity & age verification (optional).
Who's Hungry offers optional identity verification as a community-trust and age feature. If you choose to verify, our verification provider (Didit) processes a government-issued ID and a selfie to confirm your identity and age. We do not store your raw ID document or selfie; we retain your verification status and date of birth. Verification is not required to sign in or use most of the app.
Sensitive information you choose to provide (optional).
In your discovery preferences you may optionally add your background, religion, and the languages you speak. This is entirely optional—you can use Who's Hungry fully without it. We use it for one purpose only: to power the optional “Advanced Discovery” filters, which let members choose the kinds of people they'd like to meet for +1 and Shared Table plans. This information is never shown on your profile and is never shared with other members or sold—it is used solely, on our own servers, to match you to others' filters. You can change or remove it anytime in Discovery preferences, and we process it only with your consent, which you give by choosing to add it.
Location information.
With your permission, we use your device location (while you are using the app) to surface nearby plans, shared tables, restaurants, and deals, and to help detect your country during identity verification. You can change location permissions at any time in your device settings.
Content you create.
We collect the plans you create or join, photos and videos you add to shared memories, messages you send in plan chats, ratings and reviews, reservations you make, and your saved or bookmarked items.
Your connections.
We collect information about your friends and connections, your “+1” connections, people you invite, and people you block, so we can operate the social features and keep you safe.
Purchases.
If you subscribe to WH+ or WH+ Prime, the purchase is processed by the Apple App Store, and we use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. We receive your subscription tier and status—we do not receive your full payment card or Apple account credentials.
Device, usage & diagnostics.
We collect device identifiers, push notification tokens, app version, general usage activity, and diagnostic and crash data (via Sentry) to keep the app running reliably and to fix problems.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services;
- Power discovery and matchmaking—showing relevant plans, tables, +1 opportunities, restaurants, and deals near you;
- Maintain safety and trust, including identity verification, blocking, and preventing abuse;
- Enable plan chats, shared memories, and connections;
- Send notifications you've enabled (e.g., plan reminders, requests, messages);
- Process and manage subscriptions;
- Analyze performance, diagnose crashes, and develop new features;
- Communicate with you about the Services; and
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
4. Your Choices & Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing (for example, under the GDPR/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act).
- Account deletion. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings), or by emailing us. Deleting your account removes your profile and associated personal data, subject to limited retention described below.
- Location. You can disable location access in your device settings.
- Notifications. You can turn off push notifications in the app or your device settings.
- Access & other requests. Contact us at the email below and we will respond as required by applicable law.
We will never discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
5. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services. After you delete your account, we remove or de-identify your personal data, except where we must retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain safety, or enforce our agreements. Some shared content (for example, messages or memories within a plan involving others) may persist for the other participants.
6. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Certain features (such as “+1”) are intended for adults and may require age verification. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. International Users
We are based in the United States and process information there. If you access the Services from outside the United States, you understand your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries with different data protection laws.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Services after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
